Finally KRI Nanggala 402 Has Sunk

The Indonesian Navy (AL) submarine KRI Nanggala-402 has experienced blackout and is missing until now. This afternoon, TNI Commander Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto said that the submarine carrying 53 manifestations of Indonesian Navy soldiers sank based on authentic evidence of the discovery of oil and debris spills.

"Elements of the Indonesian Navy have found oil spills and debris which are authentic evidence of the sinking phase of the KRI Nanggala," said Hadi at a press conference in Bali, Saturday (24/4/2021).

Hadi said that during the past four days his party, assisted by all related agencies and military fleets from friendly countries, had been trying to find KRI Nanggala-402. And early this morning, continued Hadi, was the deadline for the availability of oxygen in the German-made submarine.

"The Indonesian Navy together with the National Police, Basarnas, KNKT and BPBD, as well as assets of friendly countries, such as Australia, the United States, Singapore, Malaysia, have tried their best to find the existence of KRI Nanggala. This morning was the deadline for life support in the form of the availability of oxygen at KRI Nanggala for 72 hours, "explained Hadi.

As is known, KRI Nanggala-402 lost contact during a torpedo shooting exercise on Wednesday (21/4/2021) in the morning. The TNI is focused on searching for the KRI Nanggala-402 in the sea north of Bali, about 40 km from Celukan Bawang, Gerokgak District, Buleleng Regency, Bali.

At that location, an oil spill and a large magnetic force were found which allegedly originated from KRI Nanggala-402.

Previously, TNI Chief of Staff (KSAL) Yudo Margono said that oxygen in the submarine was only available until 03.00 WIB, this morning. Based on Yudo's explanation, it means that currently the oxygen in KRI Nanggala-402 has run out.

"KRI's oxygen capability, if under conditions predicted to be blackout like now, is capable of 72 hours. Approximately 3 days. If yesterday lost contact at 3, it could arrive Saturday at 3, so 72 hours," said Laksamana Yudo in a press conference at Lanud Gusti Ngurah Rai Bali, Thursday (22/4).
