Head of Yogyakarta BMKG Stage of Ikhsan Pramudya explained that the earthquake was located in the sea, 91 kilometers southwest of Gunungkidul. The depth of the earthquake is 24 kilometers.

"By paying attention to the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, the earthquake that occurred was a shallow earthquake due to the subduction activity of the Indo Australia plate," Ikhsan said in his statement, Tuesday (27/4/2021).

He also conveyed that the impact of the shocks from the earthquake was felt in most of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) and even to Wonogiri in Central Java. However, the modeling results show that this earthquake has no potential for a tsunami.

"The shock of this earthquake was felt in the areas of Gunungkidul, Bantul, Sleman and Wonogiri II MMI (tremors were felt by several people, light objects were hanging swaying)," he continued.

Until now, there has been no report on the impact of the damage caused by the earthquake. Meanwhile, for the aftershocks up to 10.45 WIB today, no aftershocks have been reported.

"The public is advised to remain calm and not be affected by issues that cannot be justified," he pleaded.

Earthquake shakes were also felt by visitors to the Galeria Mall Yogyakarta. Visitors were shocked when the earthquake occurred.

"I was shocked when I was at the Samsat office on the 4th floor of Galeria Mall. There were many feelings, the officers also told them there was an earthquake," said Koni, one of the mall visitors who when the earthquake occurred was at Samsat Corner Galeria Mall, Yogyakarta City.
